FAQ
Frequently asked questions
01What is a VPS (Virtual Private Server)?
A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a virtualized server that provides dedicated resources (CPU, RAM, storage) within a shared physical server.
At VPSnet, our VPS uses paravirtualization technology, which offers several advantages over traditional full virtualization:
- Faster performance with lower overhead
- Bidirectional resource scaling — scale any resource up or down at any time, online, without reboot, using the trade-in time method (no additional payment needed)
- File-level backups — restore individual files and folders, not just full system images
Each VPS includes full root access, NVMe SSD storage, free DDoS protection, instant activation after payment, and runs Linux operating systems.
The only limitation compared to Cloud VPS is that custom kernel modules are not supported — if you need those, choose Cloud VPS instead.
02What payment methods do you accept?
VPSnet accepts a wide range of payment methods:
- Bank transfer
- Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard)
- PayPal
- Cryptocurrency
We offer flexible billing periods — monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual. All prices are displayed in EUR.
03What is the difference between VPS and Cloud VPS?
VPS uses paravirtualization technology:
- Faster performance with lower virtualization overhead
- Bidirectional resource scaling up or down, online, without reboot
- File-level backups instead of only full disk images
- Instant activation after payment
- Linux only, no custom kernel modules
Cloud VPS uses full KVM virtualization:
- Completely isolated environment with its own kernel
- Supports Windows Server with additional per-core SPLA licensing, OpenBSD, and Linux
- Custom kernel modules are supported
- Better for workloads that need full OS control
Both VPS and Cloud VPS include DDoS protection, 24/7 monitoring, NVMe SSD storage, and full root access.
04What backup options are available for VPS?
All VPS plans include free daily backups with file-level restore capability.
Unlike traditional full-disk backups, our paravirtualization technology enables file-level granularity — you can restore individual files and folders without reverting the entire system.
- Backups are stored on a separate remote server
- Retained for up to 7 days
- On-demand backups available from the control panel at any time
This is a unique advantage of VPS paravirtualization that is not available with standard KVM virtualization.
05Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, DDoS protection is included free of charge with all services — VPS, Cloud VPS, Dedicated Servers, and Colocation.
Our multi-level automated anti-DDoS system recognizes popular attack patterns:
- DNS amplification
- ICMP flood, UDP flood, TCP SYN flood
- CHARGEN and other attack vectors
The system analyzes traffic in real-time with adaptive filtering, automatically blocking unwanted traffic while allowing legitimate requests through. No additional configuration or payment required — protection is active from the moment your service is activated.
06Can I change my VPS plan after ordering?
Yes, VPS plan changes are completely free and applied online without requiring a reboot.
VPSnet uses a trade-in time method: when you change your plan, your remaining service time is recalculated based on the new plan price.
- Upgrading to a more expensive plan → shorter remaining period
- Downgrading to a cheaper plan → longer remaining period
- No additional payment required
You can change any individual resource (CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth) up or down at any time — changes take effect immediately with no downtime.
07Where is your data center located?
VPSnet operates its own data center in Vilnius, Lithuania, designed to Tier III reliability standards, with an uptime SLA of up to 99.95%.
Network infrastructure:
- Juniper cluster supporting up to 2x 12 Tbps
- 200 Gbps total capacity across multiple premium transit providers (Level3, RETN, Fiord, Hurricane Electric)
- Direct peering with Cloudflare, Google, and Meta
- Internet Exchange (IX) connections for optimal routing
Custom solutions available: dedicated fiber to your office, specific cloud parameters, and individual infrastructure setups.
08What hardware do you use?
VPSnet uses exclusively premium brand equipment:
- Servers: Dell, HPE
- Networking: Juniper, Cisco
- Processors: AMD, Intel (minimum 3 GHz per core)
- Storage: NVMe SSD exclusively — the fastest server storage technology
We perform regular hardware refreshes to maintain top-tier performance across our infrastructure.
09Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes, VPSnet offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on all services.
If you are not satisfied with our service for any reason within the first 30 days, you will receive a full refund. No questions asked.
10What operating systems can I choose?
VPS supports Linux distributions: Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, CentOS, and others.
Cloud VPS significantly expands the options:
- All Linux distributions
- Windows Server available with additional per-core SPLA licensing (production licensing, not trial)
- OpenBSD
Dedicated Servers offer the same OS families as Cloud VPS.
All services feature one-click OS reinstallation from the control panel. Windows Cloud VPS follows licensing-aware OS policy.
11AI-powered server management — how does it work?
VPSnet is one of the first hosting providers with full AI integration through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
What is MCP? It's an open standard that lets AI assistants interact with external services directly. Our MCP server — vpsnet-mcp (npmjs.com/package/vpsnet-mcp) — provides a continuously updated tool catalogue for complete VPS management.
What can AI do with your VPS:
- Order new servers, start/stop/restart services
- Change plans and scale resources
- Manage backups and SSH keys
- Reinstall operating systems
- View performance graphs and billing
- Connect via SSH to install software, configure services, and deploy applications
Compatible with: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible AI tool.
Combined with mcp-server-ssh, AI assistants can connect directly to your VPS and manage everything autonomously.
For detailed setup instructions and examples, see our changelog entry about API Keys and MCP Servers and the AI section on the homepage.

21Why can't I send emails from my VPS?
SMTP ports (25, 465, 587) are closed by default on all VPS servers to protect against spam.
This is a standard security measure used by hosting providers worldwide. Open SMTP ports on new servers are frequently abused for sending unsolicited emails, which can lead to IP blacklisting and affect other customers on the network.
How to get SMTP ports opened:
- Contact our support team via email, phone, or live chat
- Describe your use case (e.g., transactional emails, newsletter service, mail server)
- If we don't see a potential spamming risk, SMTP ports will be opened for your VPS
Alternatives: If you only need to send transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets, etc.), consider using an external SMTP relay service like Mailgun, SendGrid, or Amazon SES — these don't require open SMTP ports on your VPS and often provide better deliverability.
